I love LibraryThing, and I use it frequently. Tim Staples and the others have done a fantastic job. Here are some fun statistics about my library (which includes books I own and/or have read):
- Regarding dead famous people’s libraries: I share 56 books with Ernest Hemmingway, 32 with C.S. Lewis, 20 with Ian Fleming, 17 with Thomas Jefferson, 11 with George Orwell, 11 with Benjamin Franklin, 9 with Danilo Kis, 8 with Franz Kafka, 6 with Marylin Monroe, 6 with John Adams, 6 with John Kennedy (including “Our Enemy, The State”), and 3 with Tupac Shakur.
- Percentage of authors in my library that are Male (out of the ones that have a gender listed): 90%
- 24% of my library is by dead authors
- I’m ranked 6th for the amount of books tagged “libertarianism”, 4th for books tagged “open source”, 2nd for “christian theology”, 3rd for “silly”, 3rd for “anabaptism”, 6th for psychedelics, 1st for “presuppositional apologetics”, 3rd for “bsd”, 6th for “austrian school”
- The average date of print across my library is: 1989
I don’t know how interesting that is, but I find it pretty cool that such statistics can be so quickly obtained.
